Sadness stalks the empty streets

A tale foretold, its warnings ignored
Once an oasis has now been reduced
To nothing but an arid hollowed landscape

The carcass of a vibrant city:
A stark reminder left behind
Starving vermin roam the streets
At night, shadows hunt in packs
leaving scavengers with sun parched skin
stalking openly in the daylight
